TearSheet sat down with Marqeta Founder Jason Gardner to talk about how his company has grown and evolved over the last decade; Marqeta is a modern card issuing platform who recently raised $250mn at a $2bn valuation; the initial idea came out of an issue he had with Groupon printouts, telling TearSheet, “I became fascinated with issuing,” said Gardner. “It’s really bow of the ship, engine room stuff. I love complex systems.”; the company began to take off a few years ago when on demand lenders and challenger banks came to Marqeta to build card products; the currently operate in the U.S., Canada and Europe with plans to expand to Asia soon.
