Stripe Founders Warn of New EU Rules for Payments

Stripe, a company worth $22.5 billion is working with Amazon and Apple in warning about the impact of new rules in the EU; the issues are related to requirements verifying online transactions in the new Payments Services Directive coming mid-September; for any payment above 30 Euros, users will have to manually provide authentication through a text message or fingerprint with the exception being low-risk or trusted status; the goal is to protect consumers from fraud but these companies warn of the impact of the extra step which will decrease conversion rates.
