Santander Partners with MasterCard on Debit Card

Santander’s partnership with MasterCard will make them the first UK big five bank to issue a debit card with MasterCard; the bank will begin moving customers to MasterCard when cards expire in first quarter 2019; 95 percent of the UK’s debit card market run on Visa’s network, MasterCard is looking to eat into this market share; Matt Hall, Santander UK director of banking and unsecured credit, said to the FT that the partnership, “will enable us to give better payment solutions to our customers and look forward to rolling out the new cards from next year”.
