Facebook Decides on London as Hub for WhatsApp Payments

London just received a big boost to their fintech credibility with Facebook deciding to used the city as their hub for a payments product on WhatsApp; the messaging service has more than 1.5bn users around the globe, they plan to hire more than 100 new workers based in London and Dublin; WhatsApp is a lot more popular and diverse in the UK, this was a main driver behind the decision to choose London; “We’re eager to work with some of the best technical and operational experts in both London and Dublin to take WhatsApp into its second decade.” said Matthew Idema, WhatsApp’s Chief Operating Officer, to the FT.
