Banks Shift How they Invest in Fintech Companies

Banks have started to shift the way they invest in fintech companies looking to make fewer, larger investments in more established fintechs; there are a few reasons for this change including fintechs shifting their business models, valuations of fintech firms skyrocketing and the difficulty in integrating fintechs within the old culture and tech of the bank; some banks have even gone to create similar offerings as the fintechs which has been a cheaper venture though time will tell if these bets pay off; the biggest threat to banks is big tech who have the capital and customer relationships to threaten banks but are not yet interested in becoming banks themselves; banks and fintechs continue to evolve their working relationships and the next decade will help to determine where finance is headed.  Financial Times
