Every time you visit Lending Club’s home page you can see the number: loans funded to date. As of this writing that number stands at just over $935 million. Considering that Lending Club did $77 million in new loans last month it is safe to say the $1 billion milestone will be passed some time in the next month. But what date exactly?
I thought it would be fun to run a little contest over the next week to see who can guess the exact date this will happen. The winner will receive some free Lending Club schwag that I acquired on a recent trip. All you need to do is leave a comment on what day you think they will cross over the $1 billion mark. If you are correct I will ship you my Lending Club gifts (a sports bag, t-shirt and pen). In the event that more than one person has it correct I will choose the winner randomly.
So have at it. You have until the end of the day next Monday (October 15th) to make your guess. Any guesses made after October 15th will not be eligible.

I will say November 6th.
Nov 25
So just to be clear, there’s nothing in addition to the pen, sports bag & t-shirt?? So nothing that dictionary.com or urbandictionary.com defines as schwag?? I ask because there might be considerable additional interest in the contest if there were.
The plastic bag is sealed and I have never opened it so it is possible there is $1,000 in cash inside….but I would have to say, while possible, that is highly unlikely.
That wasn’t actually what I was alluding to. Please check the definitions given in the sites I referred to.
Dan, he said the plastic bag is sealed. I think he knows what you are referring to. I will have to decline any schwag.
Perhaps, I can never be sure with Peter.
I see what you are referring to now. And I think it is pretty clear the meaning I am going for: free stuff. My naive self was not even aware of the other meaning.
Oct 30th
November 2nd
I chose that first as seeing that I included Friday. It takes a little longer to write Friday.
Good try, but I don’t think so.
Seeing as how your response can be interpreted to be any November 2nd, whereas there are considerably fewer Friday November 2nd’s. So one can reasonably argue that I was referring to Friday, November 2nd, 2012. But a rational person looking at your response doesn’t know whether you were referring to November 2, 2013 or November 2, 2014. I think you wanted November 2, 2013. But we will never know, will we?
That’s good, though I do have reservations whether you can “reasonably argue that”. Damn, you must really want that T-shirt huh!
Fine, but you do realize that companies order everything in X-Large right?
Fine, I’ll give you November 2, 2014!
It just goes to show you that great minds think alike…and apparently at the same time!
Friday, November 2nd.
10/31
Of what year?
11/5/12
November 1st… 2012… Thursday… probably in the afternoon.

Hi,
My guess is October 31st, 2012.
Monday, November 5th!
Obviously.
I’m going to say they’ll cross the $1B mark on October 30th but it will be posted on October 31st. If they are a few million short I’ll borrow the difference to make sure I have a chance to win.
November 5.
October 29, 2012
November 9 – Thanks for the fun competition Peter! Some of these people take this stuff pretty seriously.
11/8/2012
Thanks for all the entries everyone. I think we will definitely get a winner from the dates mentioned here.
Put me down for 1 November, with a total of $1.005B! My exponential projections with daily seasonality are on fire.
Oct 26, 2012 is my guess.
No one has guessed very early and I calculate that with 33 million closer since the first of Oct and already at 947 million that is 3.3 mil per day which means (1000-947)/3.3 = 16 days + 10 Oct, 2012.
Put me down for 29 Oct
Doh, I lost….
November 5th
11/3/12
10/25/12
My guess is Nov 1, 2012.
10/27/12
I say November 26.
