Investors - P / Re: Whole Loan Program - Fair or Not?
« on: June 04, 2013, 07:16:48 am »
Good comments Rocco. Here is my take on the Whole Loan program. It serves large investors - that is completely true and I am fine with that. Why? Because without large investors Lending Club and Prosper would cease to exist. We can complain about the unlevel playing field all we like but until the large investors came along both sites could not produce enough loan volume to get even close to breakeven.

I'm sorry, but this argument is bunk to me.  Without the small investors neither company would have made it off the ground either.  Those three months without large investors, guess who kept prosper from bleeding even more red ink.

Yes, I'm all for big money helping grow the business, but obviously I don't want to be squeezed out in the process.  I'm ready to see some good competition to LC and Prosper.

If were fair they wouldn't have had to implement it, otherwise they would have kept loans available to everyone at the same time which is obviously an equal shot.   A company does not make a change like that unless they are trying to cater to the larger investor.

Impressive numbers but worthless for those unable to find new loans to invest in. I have put in no new money in over 6 months and I'm still piling cash up that I have to take out of prosper and use elsewhere.  I really liked prosper, but they are quickly losing my business.

I am more concerned what LC is doing about the no pay defaults.

Sadly, I am seeing the same thing.

Little bit of a downswing in loans over the past week.  End of the month slowdown?

Rev,

By deselecting the folio listings, it appears to have not only fixed the current listing investing amount but also the available loans showing up on the right.  Thanks for the tip.

Thanks Rev, I'll make sure my filters do not have Folio checked.

I'm still having this issue despite saving my searches correctly with current listing and desired amount.  I still have to manually go through each search, select current listing and my amount, then hit run.  Not the end of the world, but very time consuming.

To compound this, available loans are not always showing up on the widget.  I cannot readily see if there are any loans available that meet my searches until I go through each one manually.  Today for instance, it showed no available loans for any of my searches, when I clicked through them manually, there were loans available.  The available loans number is extremely useful and time saving when it works correctly.

Rev,

I just wanted to thank you for creating your service.  I have used it as my primary source research when investing in LC.    Your constant improvements are also much appreciated.  I'm sure others feel the same way.

Does prosper really need to catch LC?  As long as they provide a good product and are profitable, I don't care who is larger.

I agree things are moving in the right direction.  Its nice to finally start seeing a larger loan selection.

I'd be curious how their default rates have been affected over the past few months and how well they are going after deadbeat borrowers(2 payment or less borrowers) in the future. 0-2 payment borrowers who declare bankruptcy are committing fraud in my opinion.

Why rob a bank when you can borrow far more than than a teller has and simply default with little to no recourse from the lender.

The bankruptcy trick is unfortunate, and costs us all.  I really wish LC and prosper would go after more 0-2 payment defaults.  Even the small amounts.  Get the word out that its not wise to try that with these companies.

Suggestions / alternate investing

Peter,

you have an off topic forum, and there are a few posts on different forms of investing.  Would it be possible to create a sub forum for investing not related to p2p.

Sean,
You make a valid point.  I'm not suggesting ND, but there are plenty of markets with capable programers that are far cheaper than SF.

The programing they are doing is hardly revolutionary where you need the latest advances in technology.
